Dr Eric Soubeiga is the Senior Investment Officer at IFC, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group. He is responsible for IFC’s investment in the health and education sectors across Sub-Saharan Africa. He has led several investment transactions from origination through to execution and portfolio management.

 

Between 2005 and 2011 – the year Soubeiga joined the IFC in Johannesburg – he worked in finance in the City of London where he held roles in Consultancy and Transaction Advisory, Leveraged Finance and latterly Private Equity focusing on investing in UK and European companies in the IT, business services, healthcare, manufacturing, media and telecom sectors.

 

Soubeiga is also an academic researcher and teacher by background. He held a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Nottingham (UK) where he was involved in academic research as well as undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research supervision. His area of expertise is Operations Research and Computer Science / Artificial Intelligence.

 

He has published numerous research articles in international scientific journals, peer-reviewed books, as well as peer-reviewed conference proceedings in Africa, Asia, North America and Europe. His most recent publication is a textbook for finance professionals published in 2013 with McGraw-Hill (Mastering Financial Modeling: A Professional’s Guide to Building Financial Models in Excel).

 

Soubeiga has been involved in teaching and training programmes for MBA students, bankers, private equity financiers, entrepreneurs and investors in South Africa, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, France, UK, USA, Spain, The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

 

Fluent in French and English, Soubeiga holds a PhD, MPhil and an MSc in Operations Research from the University of Nottingham (UK), ENSIMAG (France) and USTHB (Algeria) respectively. He is a citizen of both Britain and Burkina Faso.
